Question : 21
Statement:
Many employees of the organisation applied for special sabbatical leaves of two years to pursue higher education
Assumptions:
I. The management of the organisation may not grant leave to most of these employees.
II. These employees may be able to complete their education during the sabbatical leave.
a) if only assumption I is implicit.
b) if only assumption II is implicit.
c) if either I or II is implicit.
d) if neither I nor II is implicit.
e) if both I and II are implicit.
Answer »Answer: (b)
When one applies for leave, one assumes that it would be granted. Hence I is not implicit. But Assumption II is implicit because only then the period of “two years” assumes meaning
Question : 22
Statement:
Lack of transparency in financial and investment policies and bureaucratic delays are major hurdles as India tries to integrate its economy into the global market.
Assumptions:
I. The investment policies need to be changed for large-scale globalisation in India.
II. Bureaucrats in India are corrupt.
a) if only assumption I is implicit.
b) if only assumption II is implicit.
c) if either I or II is implicit.
d) if neither I nor II is implicit.
e) if both I and II are implicit.

Statement:
The Government has transferred the entire staff of police station ‘X’ and a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the mysterious death of a man in the police station.
Assumptions:
I. Magisterial inquiry may be able to reveal the cause of death of the man in the police custody.
II. Transferring the entire staff may pave the way to hold free and fair enquiry.
a) if only assumption I is implicit.
b) if only assumption II is implicit.
c) if either I or II is implicit.
d) if neither I nor II is implicit.
e) if both I and II are implicit.
Answer »Answer: (e)
The initiative taken by the government is aimed at delving into the reasons of the mysterious death and also at punishing the guilty. Order of magisterial inquiry implies that the government must be assuming I. Why has the entire staff of police station X been transferred? The government must be assuming II also.

Hence the statement.
Question : 25
Statement:
Traffic jams on most of the roads in the city have become a regular feature during monsoon.
Assumptions:
I. Material used for road construction cannot withstand the fury of monsoon resulting into innumerable pot holes on the roads.
II. Number of vehicles coming on the road is much more in monsoon as compared to other seasons.
a) If only assumption I is implicit
b) If only assumption II is implicit
c) If either I or II is implicit
d) If neither I nor II is implicit
e) If both I and II are implicit.
Answer »Answer: (d)
- INVALID: Not related to the statement. The statement talks about traffic jams on roads. There is no mention about the cause of the traffic jams. The material resulting in the potholes on roads can be a cause. But this assumption cannot be accepted for sure as there is no mention about it in the statement
- INVALID: Not related to the statement. The assumption shows the comparison of monsoons with other seasons. There is no such proof in the statement. Hence, the assumption cannot be accepted.
